CHEER CLUB
Senior Cheer Club met at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek on March 7.
Members were happy to be reunited again after the winter months of not meeting together. After enjoying a potluck luncheon, Larry Butler welcomed all those attending and called the meeting to order. The pledge to the flag and the Lord's Prayer were recited together.
In honor of Easter later this month, Judy Cain read the scripture devotions taken from Matt. 28, verses 1-10 telling of Christ's Resurrection.
Janie Confer read the minutes from the December meeting and held the Roll Call. There were 27 present, including some newcomers which we were happy to see! Bill and Brenda Glossner, Patricia Dickey and all the way from Mansfield, Texas was Steve and Michele Young. Michele is the daughter of club member Fay Confer and the couple was here visiting for a few days.
Larry gave the treasurer's report and each person paid their $2 dues (and an extra $1 when it's their birthday month).
A thank you card from Deb Young was read aloud. Deb certainly appreciated the house warming and surprise shower gifts that were given to her in December following her recent move to Merryvale Apartments.
Everyone sang Happy Birthday to Rhoda Miller, Relda Williams, Bonnie Walker and Michele Young who were celebrating March birthdays.
Club President Larry Butler was going to pay the annual rent for us to use the FCC during the year. A donation of $25 is also going to be given to the FCC in memory of club member Beatrice "Ann" Peter who passed away on Feb. 2, 2024. Our sympathy is extended to Ann's husband, Leroy "Bill" Peter, Jr., and their family.
Poems relating to the Easter season were shared by Judy Cain, Larry Butler and Janie Confer. Janie had just penned her poem entitled 'Spring is Coming' the evening before Cheer Club.
The door prize winner, Roberta Muthler, was drawn by Steve Young. Janie Confer brought the cute Gnome Easter egg tree this month. Roberta will now bring the door prize for our next meeting.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, April 4, at noon at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek. Anyone 55 years of age and older is invited to bring a covered dish, your own drink and an unwrapped gift for the Chinese auction. And, bring a friend along!
