FREE LECTURE
Join Mid-State Literacy Council on May 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Snydertown, rural Howard, for a free technology lecture called "Online Rx Drug Resources." During this lecture, you'll learn about MedlinePlus, a reputable website that provides information about the uses and side effects of prescription medications, as well as other health topics. You'll also learn about GoodRX, FamilyWize and SingleCare, helpful tools for understanding drug costs, comparing pharmacy prices and finding discounts and coupons. BARGAINS AND BLESSINGS
Bargains and Blessings Community Closet will be open for the first sale of the season on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 551 Hunter Run Road, Howard. Enter through the side door off the lower parking lot. This sale will be held rain or shine.
Gently used clothing, shoes and accessories for the entire family are available. Sizes range from infants through 3X, and are priced at $5.00 per bag full. Bags will be furnished. Free coffee, water and small snacks will also be available.
Bargains and Blessings Community Closet is an outreach ministry of Faith Chapel UMC that serves Beech Creek, Blanchard, Howard and surrounding areas. All proceeds go back into the community to help families in need.

CEMETERY CLEAN-UP
Fairview Cemetery Spring Clean-up Day will be May 4, with a rain date of May 11 if needed. The clean-up crew will begin at 9 a.m. to remove faded and out of season decorations from the grave-sites at their discretion. If there are any decorations you'd want to keep they must be retrieved before May 4.
As of April 15 the Fairview Cemetery will be taken care of by the Fairview Church. The Fairview Cemetery Association has been nullified. All donations can be sent to the Fairview Church Cemetery Committee, 2505 N. Eagle Valley Road, Howard, PA 16841.
Memorial Services will be held at the cemetery on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m.
CORN HOLE & CHICKEN
There will be a Chicken BBQ combined with a Corn Hole tournament at the Howard Fire Hall on May 18. Dinners will include 1/2 chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans and a roll with butter for $12. Cornhole registration begins at 11 a.m. (bags fly at noon) and is $20 per person, which includes the meal. If you aren't playing in the tournament you can still purchase the meal at $12. HELP SCOUTS
Centre Hall Fire Company is holding their first Friday of the month Bingo on May 3 at the fire station. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; early bird game starts at 6:30 p.m. and regular Bingo kicks off at 7 p.m. This is the last of the Friday night Bingo's until fall.
The fire company is going to be helping the local girl scout troop 40055 so they can earn their Bronze Award. The scouts are asking for the Bingo patrons to bring three or more items from this list of things so that the girls can put together care kits for the local police departments to hand out during emergency situations. Those patrons who are willing to donate three or more items will be given a discount on their early bird package price! Items that can be brought are travel size shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, hand sanitizer, tooth brush, tooth paste, socks, hair ties, brush/combs, Chapstick, etc.
LIONS NEWS
Milesburg Lions Club holds their Bingo every Thursday evening at the Milesburg Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:45 p.m.
Howard Area Lions will hold their Lions Bingo at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall on May 9 and on May 23. Doors and the kitchen open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo begins at 6:30 p.m.
At the last Bingo it was announced that the Lions want to have Bingo players donate a bag of candy (worth $5) for the Lions to throw to parade watchers during the Memorial Day parade in the Beech Creek-Blanchard area. The candy can be brought either to the May 9 Bingo or the last Bingo before summer break on May 23. Each person donating the candy will receive $5 off their package price for the evening. The bags of candy need to be individually wrapped pieces and no chocolate (it melts too easily).
Bellefonte Lions Club is selling chances for a Cash and Meat raffle. There are various bundles of meats (featuring bacon, beef and chicken) along with cash prizes being offered. The tickets are bargain priced at 3 for $10 or $5 each. Meat prizes can be picked up at Mark's Custom Meats in Lamar. Winners will be drawn and notified on May 8.
FIRE NEWS
Howard Fire Company's indoor yard sale days are May 9-10-11 this year. Donations of good, clean and working items can be brought on Monday, May 6, through Wednesday, May 8, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. No tires, no car seats, no encyclopedias, no wet clothes and no junk!!
Yard Sale shopping will be on May 9 and 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. until noon. Volunteers are needed to help set up and box up all the unsold items at the end of the sale.
Milesburg's Citizen's Hook & Ladder Company is having a Chicken BBQ on Saturday, May 18, at the firehall at 300 Catherine St. Meals are $12 and include half chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad and a roll. Half chicken is $10. The fundraiser runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until sold out. Call Jon at 814-359-9943 for more info.
Centre Hall Fire Company has their Gun Raffle tickets for sale. The raffle will be held on Saturday, May 18. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the Friday night Bingo or by seeing a fire company member.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company has set the new dates for their fire company carnival. The carnival is going to be held on June 20, 21 and 22, 2024. The parade will be held on Thursday evening, June 20. Mark your calendar of these new carnival dates and stay tuned for more info coming.
The fire company is selling chances for six cash prizes of $500 each that will be given away during the last night of the carnival. Chances are 6/$5 or $1 each.
Mill Creek Fire Company has their Gun and Cash Raffle tickets on sale for the drawing on Sept. 21 at the Mill Creek Firemen's Park. Tickets are $10 and offer cash prizes, 100 guns, a Harley Davidson Sportster, a H-D Fat Boy and a Honda Rancher.
Gregg Township Fire Company's annual gun raffle will be on Sept. 28. Tickets are on sale now at $10 each or bargain priced at 3/$20.
Walker Township Fire Company's annual gun raffle will be on Oct. 19 at the fire station in Hublersburg. Tickets are $10.
YARD SALES
Howard's Yard Sale Days are always the first full weekend in May, so that would be May 3-4.
Flemington's Community Yard Sales will be May 3-4.
On Saturday, May 4, there will be indoor yard sales at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Parkview Heights off Bishop Street in Bellefonte will have community yard sales on May 3-4.
Milesburg's Spring Yard Sale Days are May 17-18. If you're not having your own yard sale in Milesburg, please consider dropping off donations for the Milesburg Museum's yard sale.
Bellefonte Community Yard Sale days are May 10-11.
GROUND HOG HUNT
Liberty Township Sportsmen's Association is having a first-ever Ground Hog Hunt on May 11. Pre-Registrations are due May 5 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the clubhouse. Online registration can be done at libertysportsmen.com. Registration must be completed by May 6. Cost to register: Member $20, Non Members $25. Also, enter the Largest Female contest for an additional $2. Final Weighin will be at 7 p.m. The day of hunt activities Indoor/Outdoor Flea Market. Club Kitchen will be open. FREE CLOTHING
Light of the World Clothing Bank at St. John's United Church of Christ will be holding a free clothing give-away on Friday, May 3, from 2:30-5 p.m. and on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. Spring/Summer clothing for everyone from babies to adults, blankets, sheets, some beautiful handmade afghans, shoes, purses and more. Everything is free!
