UPCOMING EVENTS
Howard Area Lions Food Bank will be open on Monday, May 20. The Master Gardeners will be there to give out free vegetable plants and flowers. Food Bank distribution is from noon to 3 p.m. at the former BC Elementary in Beech Creek.
The annual Nittany Valley Amish Benefit Auction at the Clinton County Fairgrounds is on Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25. Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. there will be a flower and plant sale, grocery sale and a gun sale. There's also a supper starting at 3 p.m.
On Saturday starting at 8:30 a.m. there will be a full day of auctioning including quilts, furniture, crafts, lawn and garden items, sporting goods, small animals, building supplies, carriages and more. The Education Committee of the Wingate Faith Church will be hosting a presentation along with Trooper Rhymestine, Public Information Officer of the PA State Police. The presentation on spotting and avoiding scans will include current trends and tricks of scammers along with how to avoid falling prey to their tricks. The presentation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at 7 p.m., at the church, 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte. The church is located behind the Sheetz store in Wingate.
Descendants of Wilson and Hazel (Mace) Miller will gather for their reunion on Saturday, May 25. Bring a hot and cold covered dish to share for the noon picnic lunch that will be held at Bill Rogers' pavilion. Bring a wrapped item for the auction and extra cash for the raffles.

BIBLE SCHOOL
Marsh Creek Brethren in Christ Church invites children (and their parents) to Vacation Bible School on Sunday, June 9, through Wednesday, June 12, at the church located along Summit Hill Road, just five miles west of Howard.
A kick-off picnic will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. before Bible School starts and then each evening afterward from 6-8:30 p.m. Children ages Pre-K and up (along with their parents) are welcome to join us each evening for Bible Stories, games, songs, Legos, building blocks, an offering challenge and more. Yarnell UM Church wants to thank everyone who supported their chicken and waffles fundraising meal last month at the Yarnell Community Center. It was nice to see all of the folks who came for the good food and fellowship during the meal.
The proceeds from the meal will be used for the community center's needs, like paying the taxes and buying heating oil for the winter months. A "Jack's Hoagies" fundraiser is being planned for later this summer, too.
LIONS NEWS
Howard Area Lions will hold their Lions Bingo at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall on May 23. Doors and the kitchen open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo begins at 6:30 p.m.
It was announced that the Lions want to have Bingo players donate a bag of candy (worth $5) for the Lions to throw to parade watchers during the Memorial Day parade in the Beech Creek-Blanchard area. Several bags of candy were donated by the Bingo players on May 9. The candy can still be brought to the last Bingo before summer break on May 23. Each person donating the candy will receive $5 off their package price for the evening. The bags of candy need to be individually wrapped pieces and no chocolate (it melts too easily).
Howard Area Lions will have their annual Foster Sayers Memorial Ceremony on Friday evening, May 24, at the Sayers Memorial site beginning at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
WEEKEND EVENTS
There will be a Chicken BBQ combined with a Corn Hole tournament at the Howard Fire Hall on May 18. Dinners will include 1/2 chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans and a roll with butter for $12. Cornhole registration begins at 11 a.m. (bags fly at noon) and is $20 per person, which includes the meal. If you aren't playing in the tournament you can still purchase the meal at $12. Centre Hall Fire Company is having their Gun Raffle tomorrow, May 18.
Milesburg's Citizen's Hook & Ladder Company is having a Chicken BBQ at the fire station on May 18. The meal will include half chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad and a roll for $12. If you'd just like the half chicken then the price would be $10. This fundraiser runs from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., or until sold out. Call Jon at 814-359-9943 for info.
Milesburg's Spring Yard Sale Days are May 17-18. If you're not having your own yard sale in Milesburg, please stop by to check for bargains at the Milesburg Museum's yard sale.
The Wingate Faith Church is offering space in their parking lot for people who would like to set up a yard sale on May 17-18 when Milesburg has their community yard sale days. For a donation to the church, you can set up your sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. You must provide your own tables and shade canopy. Snyder's food truck will also be there.
Centre County Master Gardeners are having their annual plant sale fundraiser tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ag Progress Days site in Pa. Furnace. The Master Gardeners will have over 5,000 plants to offer along with shrubs and trees. There will be vegetable plants, herbs, annuals and perennial flowers along with plants, shrubs and small trees to enhance and beautify your outdoor landscape. Prices range from $3 to $25 for most of the plants and shrubs. Bring the whole family as there will be kid-friendly activities, a silent auction, a garage sale. Many of the Centre County Master Gardeners will be there to give you free advice and growing tips. Tim Damico and Jeanie Kim are this year's co-chairs of the plant sale that is located along Route 45, at 2710 W. Pine Grove Road, in Pennsylvania Furnace.
Bargains and Blessings Community Closet will be open May 18, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 551 Hunter Run Road, Howard. Gently used clothing and accessories for the entire family are available. Sizes range from infants through 3X, and are priced at $5 per bag full. MEMORIAL SERVICES
Fairview Cemetery in Boggs Township will have their annual Memorial Services on Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. A donation basket is passed to collect money to help with the mowing and perpetual care needs of the cemetery grounds.
Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at the Advent Cemetery along Moose Run Road, between Milesburg and Yarnell. Afterward there will be "Music at the Advent."

The Memorial Day Service at Schencks Cemetery, Howard Township, is scheduled for Monday, May 27, beginning at 2 p.m. This year's speaker will be Paul Takac, Pa. State Representative of the 82nd District.
MUSIC AT THE ADVENT
Music at the Advent will be held on Memorial Day, May 27, from 10 a.m. until noon. The Advent Cemetery will have memorial services at 9 a.m. and then the first event of the Music at the Advent 2024 concert series will feature the Stauffer and Watson families in a musical program of patriotic songs and hymns to sing along to. The Advent Historical Society is sponsoring this concert with light refreshments being provided by members and friends. The Advent Museum and gallery will be open.
