LOGANTON -- On Friday, May 17, from 8-11 a.m., Mobile Health of Evangelical will be parked at Scenic Ridge Foods, 98 South St., Loganton, for a special health offering to women of the community.
Daria Keyser, DO, a surgeon at both Surgical Specialists of Evangelical and the Thyra M. Humphreys Center for Breast Health, will be on hand facilitating free skin screens and breast exams for women.
Because of the specialized nature of this Mobile Health stop, appointments are required. To reserve a time, call 570-768-3215.
Skin Screening
Skin cancer screens are opportunities for a medical professional to view marks on the body -- such as moles, freckles and other beauty marks -- to identify any concerning discoloration, shape or size.
For this mobile-style skin screen, participants should wear loose fitting clothing that allows Dr. Keyser the ability to view the areas that are exposed to daily sun during the day during normal outside activities. Dr. Keyser will help identify areas that may need immediate attention and other areas to watch for changes.
Breast Exam
Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the breast tissue. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women after skin cancer. Anyone who has not had a breast exam recently or has concerns is invited to visit Mobile Health during the stop.
A clinical breast exam is designed to find any abnormalities to the breasts, underarms and the area just below the clavicle (collar bone) for any changes or abnormalities, such as a lump. Dr. Keyser will perform an exam, identify any issues and go over questions or concerns.
A female member of Thyra M. Humphreys Center for Breast Health will be on-hand to assist with scheduling mammograms for those who are interested and will have information on financial assistance available.
