Centre Hall Fire Co. purchases new firefighting apparatus

CENTRE HALL -- Centre Hall Fire Company recently announced the purchase of its newest piece of firefighting apparatus, a 2001 Sutphen 75' tower. This aerial apparatus is equipped with a 1,500 gpm (gallon per minute) pump and 500 gallons of water.
The aerial arrived in Centre Hall from the Hyde Park Fire Department in New York. This new-to-CHFC piece of apparatus will replace engine 4-1 at the Centre County fire station.
Engine 4-1 has now been listed for sale with plans for the money from its sale to go back into the fire company's bank account for the purchase of additional fire apparatus as needed.
Since CHFC has never had a tower before, fire fighters will be taking the next few months to have new lettering and decals added before equipping it, while also undergoing training on safe operation of the unit.
Basic training has already begun with more formal, intensive training scheduled this fall with a certified instructor. This will ensure all members will be proficient in operating it before it is officially put into use to serve Centre Hall Borough, Potter Township and the surrounding communities.
Centre Hall Fire Company purchased this aerial unit for $175,000 without tax dollars used, no loan taken and no grant funds needed.
The aerial was paid in full with funds earned by the hard work and dedication of the fire company volunteers who devoted countless hours to their fundraising efforts, along with the outstanding support of the community businesses and residents, along with all those who participated in the Bingos, raffles, spring mailer, building rentals and many other fundraising events.
The public is invited to stop by the fire station to see the aerial truck and talk to the firefighters who are very proud of their newest acquisition to their fleet. Work nights are on Mondays -- except Monday, Aug. 26. Volunteers are always welcome, and training is provided.
