Clinton County Farm Bureau collects donations for Ronald McDonald House

3 min read

MILL HALL -- Clinton County Farm Bureau is celebrating the Farmers Care Event by collecting a donation of food, monies and other needed items for the Ronald McDonald House in Danville to be delivered on March 11.

Farmers Care is a program that recognizes the commitment of farm families to raising healthy food for our communities and, at the same time, it shows the way farmers volunteer to help those in need.

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau has supported this program for 27 years by collecting food and monetary donations for Ronald McDonald House charities.

"The Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful program that provides needed resources and services to members of our community," said Clinton County Farm Bureau President Justin Snook. "It takes a lot of support from various groups to provide this charitable service for our county. It's a perfect way for us to recognize the bounty from our farms."

The Danville House reported in 2024 they updated the bathrooms with new showers in the guest rooms, along with new windows. They also updated a section of the landscaping in the front circle of the house to add new plants, benches and tables for families to enjoy a peaceful moment outside.

In 2024, they had 65 campers at Camp Dost and served approximately 9,000 guests. Since 1981, 450,000 guests have been served. But in Clinton County there have been over 1,300 families who stayed at the Danville Ronald McDonald House between 1981-2024.

Ronald McDonald Houses across the state provide a "home away from home" for many families of seriously ill children who receive medical treatment.

In Pennsylvania, many of these families must travel long distances from their rural communities to receive proper care. The house is run by donations, they ask $15 per night but many don't have it and are not turned away. COVID-19 has changed the wishlist needs to more individual items.

The PFB Women Leadership Committee invites local churches, schools, 4-H Clubs and FFA and other organizations to participate in the Farmers Care Event. This year the collection begins Jan. 26 and runs through March 2. The bureau is asking for donations and there are many ways to give. The PFB donation drive lasts about six months.

The collections should be individually ready to eat meals, snacks, K-Cup coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cake mixes, icing, pasta, sauce, sugar, mustard, ketchup, mayo, paper towels, toilet paper or gift cards from Weis, Target, Walmart, Giant and Amazon. Checks are made out to "Ronald McDonald House of Danville."

The Ronald McDonald House has a special program, the Can Tab Collection. Each year they are delivered along with the other items and food by Bonnie Beck, Clinton County Farm Bureau Coordinator.

A donation box is located at the Sugar Valley Church of the Brethren in Loganton, Mt. Pleasant Bible Church in Rosecrans, Clinton County Stockman 4-H Club, Sugar Valley Rural Charter School FFA, Sugar Valley Ag 4-H club, Albright United Methodist Church in Loganton, Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenburr, Lamar United Methodist Church, Wesleyan Church in Loganton and the Extension Office in Mill Hall.
