HUBLERSBURG — A Nittany Valley Amish Benefit Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 29, from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Walker Township fire station in Hublersburg. The address of the fire station is 125 Fire House Lane, Howard.
The main course for the meal, prepared by the Nittany Valley Amish community, will include pulled roasted chicken and filling, cooked ham, seasoned just right, mashed potatoes and gravy, home-style baked beans with real bacon and brown sugar, noodles and cheese, fresh baked bread, cole slaw, apple salad and creamed celery.
The mouth watering desserts include ice cream, a variety of freshly baked homemade pies, chocolate cake, locally made doughnuts and vanilla pudding, to name just a few. Several sugar free apple pies are also on the menu for those who must watch their sugar intake.
Beverages include freshly squeezed lemonade, coffee and hot tea.
The cost of the meals will be $22 for adults ages 18-64; $20 for Senior Citizens ages 65 and older; $20 for children ages 11-17; $9 for children ages 5-10; and those ages four and younger can eat for free.
The meals are available for sit down dining where you get to choose your hour of dining between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Walk-ins will also be accommodated as seating allows. For less waiting, it’s recommended that you reserve your tickets in advance for one of the seven time slots available, (12-1 p.m., 1-2 p.m., 2-3 p.m., 3-4 p.m., 4-5 p.m., 5-6 p.m. and concluding with the 6-7 p.m. dinner hour.)
It should be noted that the 5-6 p.m. dinner hour usually fills up fast, so make your reservations promptly by calling Sylvia at 814-810-7959 or Dorothy at 814-810-8664. Checks should then be made payable to WNSB and mailed to John Glick, 196 Hoy Road, Howard, PA 16841.
Take out meals can also be purchased for $20 each.
The organizers’ goal during the benefit is to create an exceptional dining experience featuring its traditional Amish wedding atmosphere with large tables and a buffet style meal. They want you to enjoy all of the food that’s been prepared by the best cooks in the community. The building is handicapped accessible and the friendly Amish teens and youth will help you fill your plate and pour your drinks as needed.
Proceeds from this spring benefit go to help young families offset some of the costs associated with the Amish parochial schools. The Amish don’t accept government aid for their schools, so the support of your attendance at this meal will greatly be appreciated.
During the spring meal on March 29, you’ll want to visit the on-site Market Stand for a variety of tasty treats and items that you can buy and take along home with you.
Another benefit meal is being planned in September and will be announced.
