Mrs. Walizer, Mrs. Crawford and Miss Fisher’s 9th grade English classes at SVRCS just completed a unit of study on The Holocaust. As a culminating project, the students were required to create a “Quilt Panel” which showcased images evoked by reading Elie Wiesel’s memoir, “Night.” The students were also charged with the task of documenting and explaining compelling quotes from the reading that connected with the images they chose. Lastly, the students were to write a reflection on what reading this novel meant to them. During this unit, the students also created a timeline from 1933-1945. They explored events, laws and decrees, the American response and the personal impact on the Weisel family. Pictured with the novel “Night” are, from left, Landon Pletcher, Ruger Dutrow, Jaelynn Smith, Bentley Andrus, Aaliyah Hopkins and Daedreynn Hopkins.
