BELLEFONTE — Centre County Emergency Management, in cooperation with Centre County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications, has implemented a new emergency mass notification service called ALERTCentre.

The new emergency mass notification service is provided by Rave Mobile Safety, a Motorola company, and is designed to enhance and provide more reliable, faster notifications to residents during events where the life or safety of the public may be in jeopardy.

ALERTCentre was selected for its speed, reliability and accuracy. Public safety officials across the United States have credited mass notification systems for successfully locating missing persons, apprehending wanted criminals and issuing timely evacuations. The new platform replaces the old CodeRED system previously used by Centre County and Centre Region Council of Government Emergency Management.

ALERTCentre will serve as the emergency notification system of Centre County Government to provide outreach to both Centre County citizens and county employees. The system is capable of making telephone calls, sending text messages and emails and posting to social media channels to inform residents of emergencies to better prepare them to protect life and property. Centre Region Emergency Management will also be utilizing the county’s ALERTCentre for any emergency notifications for Centre Region residents.

ALERTCentre is a state-of-the-art system providing Emergency Management officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our citizens during emergencies. Centre County Government anticipates using the system to notify residents of missing people, floods, evacuations, shelter in place, broadcast wanted fugitives, active violence incidents and any other life threatening, critical emergencies.

The system went live on Jan. 1, 2025, with a soft rollout to existing residents who were previously signed up on the old system.

It is based on the address of the incident. A message can be targeted to the entire county, a targeted municipality or a radius or zone around a hazard area. If you live within the targeted area, you will receive an alert message.

Enrollment is completely free and totally voluntary. By self-enrolling, residents will have

the ability to build a custom dataset with information about their residence and families.

You can opt out any time. All information entered into ALERTCentre by residents is private and will not be distributed in any manner.

Centre County has an exclusive enrollment page through Rave’s Smart-911 enrollment web portal. Centre County and Centre Region Emergency Management encourages all residents to sign up for emergency notifications. Any resident who signed up with CodeRED previously should sign up for ALERTCentre to create a new updated profile in the new system and take advantage of additional options offered.

There are two ways to enroll:
