All Aboard to Curtin Village: Tickets on sale now for program on June 8
HOWARD — Tickets for the Sunday, June 8, Civil War program rail excursion on The American Pioneer are now on sale from Bellefonte Historical Railroad (bellefontetrain.org).
The excursion includes two 30-minute train trips to and from Curtin Village, a one-hour program telling the story of Curtin Village residents who volunteered for service during the Civil War and an hour of free time to explore the Curtin Village buildings and grounds.
The train promptly leaves the Bellefonte Station at 10 a.m. and arrives at Curtin Village at 10:30 a.m. The return trip departs Curtin Village at 12:30 p.m. and arrives back at the Bellefonte Station at 1 p.m.
Additionally, a guide from Curtin Village will be on board the train to provide an introduction to Curtin Village’s role in the history of the Civil War.
The American Pioneer passengers will enjoy their train travel on vintage rail diesel cars manufactured in Pennsylvania by the Edward G. Budd Company of Philadelphia between 1949 and 1962. These rail cars revolutionized passenger service in the northeast United States and are nationally significant.
This program is being offered as part of the three-day Civil War Weekend in Bellefonte, the hometown of Pennsylvania’s Civil War governor, Andrew Gregg Curtin, the son of Eagle Iron Works founder, Roland Curtin. Demonstrations, lectures, music, recreations of essential speeches including Lincoln’s First Inaugural Address, a tour of the historic Union Cemetery focusing on the Civil War soldiers and leaders buried there and a train excursion to Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village, www.curtinvillage.com, are available to the public.
