LOCK HAVEN — The Clinton County Arts Council will present the work of four seasoned sculptors during a special exhibit beginning Friday, July 25, with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Grounded” is an exhibit curated by Jim Bright, a sculptor and educator himself, who chose to assemble the four area artists to showcase work in The Station Gallery, 2 E. Bald Eagle St., Lock Haven.

The exhibit will feature pieces created in a variety of mediums including clay, metal, stone and wood by artists Milt Friedly, Jack Troy, Tom Svec and Roger Wing.

Friedly’s contributions to the show include work from between 2005 to present and features various metal works.

“In the assembled works, I look at the intrigue of the object, the history of the object and how the parts might fit together to make the whole,” Friedly said in an artist statement. “The works are poetic, playful, mysterious and yet contain elements of seriousness. They are meant to project meaningful relationships in context to what it is to be human, life’s inventions and trials.”

Svec, a local resident, first established a wood workshop in a cramped, rented farmhouse basement in 1980 after college before moving to his present location at 51 Island Road. He would later open a showroom and gallery in 2012.

Svec’s work features domestic hardwoods from the abundance of upstate resources. Outside of conventional lumber, he also uses salvaged wood from building demolitions and urban tree resources in his design processes.

This year marks 45 years of his work as a furniture designer/builder.

Jack Troy is a potter, teacher and writer from Huntingdon where he taught at Juniata College for 39 years.

His work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery, Auckland Museum of Art, Kalamazoo Institute of Art and Alfred University.

A retrospective exhibition of his ceramic work is currently on display at Juniata College Museum of Art and is called “Jack Troy: By the Numbers.” It gives a comprehensive look at his artistic journey and connection to the college.

Roger Wing was introduced to wood carving while in college in 1988. Since then he has begun to work with a variety of mediums including ice, snow, sand and stone.

Though other approaches to sculpture such as modeling clay and casting and fabricating metal have expanded Wing’s knowledge of techniques and tools, carving wood still claims the greatest hold on his heart.

Come see these artists’ work during the opening reception at The Station Gallery where they will be available to answer questions and discuss their work.

The exhibit will run until Aug. 17 and is partially made possible through the support of the CCAC, individuals and 2025 arts funding from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, Clinton County Community Foundation and Clinton County Visitors Bureau.
