FCC THANKS

Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek held a basket raffle on July 19 to raise funds to help the FCC have a new drop ceiling and lights installed. FCC President Pam Hevner wants to thank everyone for donating baskets and prizes for the raffle. Thanks also to those who came to support the basket raffle by buying chances. The 50/50 winner was Barbie Conway and all the baskets have been picked up already.

The FCC also needs the community’s support in providing donations that will help to keep the expenses down at the center. Items that are needed are paper towels, toilet paper, toilet cleaning products, Dawn dish washing liquid, Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaning products and 32-gallon garbage bags. By donating these items it keeps the costs down so that the rental fees won’t have to be raised. Gift cards to Walmart and Dollar General are also useful for when the center needs to buy certain items that are needed.

Items can be dropped off at the FCC on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings when the library is open from 3-7 p.m.

CLOTHING BANK

The Light of the World Clothing Bank will be open Friday, Aug. 1, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., and on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 145 W. Linn St., Bellefonte. New donated clothing for everyone will be available, as well as brand new shorts and tops for boys and men. Come and shop for FREE or give a donation if you can!

YARD SALES

Rebersburg Town wide yard sales are today and tomorrow, July 25 and 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

COUNTRY JAM

The Back Porch String Band will hold their monthly Country Jam on Sunday, July 27, from 2-6 p.m., at the Yearick Center/Howard fire hall. The public is invited to this free afternoon of music. If you play an instrument bring it along, or you can sit back, relax and enjoy the toe tappin tunes.

Attendees are asked to bring a snack to share during the afternoon. A hat is passed for folks to drop a few dollars in that benefits the fire company.

SNOW SHOE POOL

If you’re looking for a nice place to cool off on these hot, humid days, try the Mountain Top Area Pool in Snow Shoe. The prices are really reasonable and the pool makes for a great time to spend with the kids and grandkids.

An adult day pass is just $7 and school age kids are $5 while the cost for those under age five is $3. Babies are admitted free. If you just want to soak up some rays then the price for sunbathing is $3. Family and individual memberships for the remaining pool season are also available as well.

The pool is open from 12-6 p.m., weather permitting, through Labor Day. The concession stand is open as well, offering pizza, sandwiches, corn dogs, Hot Pockets, soda, Gatorade, chips, candy and water.

If your business or organization would like more information or to make a donation to the pool, contact Jenn at 814-880-8382.

The Mountain Top Area Pool has a Facebook page where you can learn about the upcoming activities at the pool and also about weather conditions (rain/thunderstorms) that may close the pool for the day, or call the pool office at 814-470-3272.

DUCKSTOCK 2025

Duckstock 2025 will be held at Sickle Park in Milesburg this evening and all day tomorrow. The public is invited!

In memory of Lester “Ducky” Walk, Jr. and his son, Lester Walk III, Duckstock is an annual festival that embraces love, remembrance and community support while raising funds to help those who have cancer or serious illnesses and those who utilize the local food bank to help meet their food needs.

Admission is $20 (or more) of canned foods that are donated to the Milesburg Presbyterian Church’s food bank and covered dishes for the picnic potluck meal on Saturday.

For more info about Duckstock call Lawana (Walk) Confer at 814-777-6950, email her at Duckstock814@gmail.com or visit the Duckstock Facebook page.

FLEA MARKET

Pleasant Gap Fire Company will have a weekly flea market each Thursday at the fire company carnival grounds. The vendor fee of $20 will benefit the PGFC. Vendors will be set up starting at 7 a.m., weather permitting, each week. If shopper turnout is low, vendors begin packing up and departing, so come before noon for the best shopping experiences.

New vendors are invited, and are required to bring their own outdoor canopies and tables for the outside market. There are a few buildings/pavilions at the grounds that vendors can use, but they are on a first come basis. There are some trees for shade for vendors to choose those spots as well. Call Mark at 814-355-2753 for vendor information.

Food is also available during the day, too! Relay for Life will be providing food on certain days during the flea market. Again, come early to get something to eat before the vendors pack up to leave.

The flea market is expected to continue through August and maybe into September, so long as vendor and customer interest continues. The flea market is expected to be open during Grange Fair time, too! Stop by and check this new flea market out! The flea market/fire station location is at 475 Robinson Lane, Pleasant Gap. More info is available by contacting Greg at ggmar1@hotmail.com or call 814-883-3124.

CHEERIOS COLLECTION

The Pathway to Christ Church in McElhattan is always happy to help when they are approached by someone or a group with a need, and now the church and its congregation members are looking to help the Food Pantry at St. John Lutheran Church’s Jersey Shore Care and Share program. The “Healthy Start” cereal collection program has a goal to collect 900 boxes of Cheerios before the end of October.

Pathway to Christ Church needs your help to aid in their collection of the Cheerios in the hopes that as many boxes as possible can be collected to help reach the food pantry’s project goal to help fight food insecurities.

Jersey Shore Care and Share’s program is financially stressed because of the cuts made to governmental funding. They have been grateful for the support of donations from Weis Markets and Save-a-Lot in Lock Haven, but more support is needed. That’s when St. John Lutheran’s Pastor Aucker reached out to other church pastors in the hopes that their congregations could help.

When you hear that 900 boxes of (regular) Cheerios are needed, that seems like an enormous amount, but when you have little churches all over Clinton, Centre and Lycoming counties working together, we can hope to meet the food pantry’s goal.

This food pantry is all volunteer and relies on donations from caring individuals throughout the community. Whether you provide non-perishable foods or give monetary donations, every bit goes towards helping to feed families right here in our community.

Cheerios can be brought to the Pathway to Christ Church in McElhattan, or taken right to the Jersey Shore Care and Share program at St. John Lutheran Church, 229 Broad St., Jersey Shore. Pastor Kerry Aucker can be reached at 570-916-1317 or the food pantry director, Christine Barner, can be reached at 570-360-0178.

Let’s all pitch in and donate Cheerios (the original flavor in the big yellow box) to reach the goal!
