Saturday, Aug. 23

— Eligible kids and teens can choose a pair of free, new sneakers or shoes this month at the Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank, inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven. The Shoe Bank will be open today. Appointments are required. Kids and teens through age 17 (or older if in high school) are eligible if they have Compass and live in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin School area. — KBR Bingo will host a Cash Bash Benefit Bingo for the Alzheimer’s Association. The Bingo is sponsored by both Lock Haven Rehabilitation and Senior Living and Haven Place. Tickets are $25. Note that doors open at 3 p.m. and games start at 5 p.m. for this benefit. Call Brenda at 570-367-3767 for tickets or info on the Alzheimer’s Benefit Bingo. The KBR Bingo hall is on the 3rd floor of the Piper Museum building, 1 Piper Way, Lock Haven. Elevator service is available.

— Sidewalk Sale Days in downtown Lock Haven, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Businesses on Main Street will be participating. The Sidewalk Sales will include live entertainment in the East Main Street parking lot by acoustic duo 2 A.M. and line dancing, too.

— At Hyner Run State Park at 3:30 p.m., you can join the park naturalist for a look at the natural history of one of the most sought-after game species in Pennsylvania, “Whitetail Deer.” Other topics will include the challenge of chronic wasting disease and other challenges facing the deer today. There will also be a craft. Meet at the pool.

Sunday, Aug. 24

— Country Jam, 2-6 p.m., at the Howard fire hall. Bring a snack to share! Free music during the afternoon. If you play, bring your instrument to play along, or just sit back and enjoy the tunes!

— Puzzle Swap from noon to 2 p.m., at Axemann Brewery, 2042 Axemann Road, Suite 125, Bellefonte. Tape puzzle boxes or bag pieces and indicate if any missing pieces.

— The Jersey Shore American Legion Riders Post 36 will host the Steel Horses for Real Horses Benefit Run at the Jersey Shore American Legion, 320 Seminary St., Jersey Shore. Registration runs from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and is $15 per bike and $10 per passenger. The event is open to all vehicles. This will be a non-structured ride, followed by a hearty meal, a 50/50 drawing and an “Ole American Auction.” Breakfast sandwiches will be available for purchase for $5. Monday, Aug. 25

— Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution, noon to 3 p.m., at the former Beech Creek Elementary. (This is a scheduling change in date since the Lions were parking cars last week at Grange Fair.)

— Dunnstown Fire Company offers a Cash Bingo every Monday night at the fire station on 119 Woodward Ave., Lock Haven. Bingo starts at 6 p.m. and all proceeds help to support the fire company’s needs.

Tuesday, Aug. 26

— American Red Cross Blood Drive, 11:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, W. 4th St., Lock Haven. St. Luke’s famous root beer floats will be served!

— American Red Cross Blood Drive, noon – 5:30 p.m., at Watermarke Church, Zion Road, Bellefone.

— KBR Bingo holds Cash Bingo every Tuesday night, 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Call Deb at 570-660-2647.

— The deadline for Sentimental Journey’s Holiday Seafood Sale orders is noon today. Pick up will be on Aug. 29 between 3 and 5 p.m. at Piper Memorial Airport Hangar 1, 353 Proctor Street, Lock Haven.
