LOCK HAVEN — Whether you’re looking to check some back to school items off your list or maybe even get a jump on your holiday shopping, over a dozen businesses in downtown Lock Haven are the perfect place to stop and shop during the annual Sidewalk Sales.

The event, which has taken place on and off since the 1960s, was reinvigorated a few years ago and gives shoppers the chance to peruse discount items right on Main Street in the city.

Sidewalk Sales will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and include merchandise from about 15 local businesses.

Fabre Sanders, co-owner of It Is What It Is and It Is What It Is Sweet Shop, said she can recall these sales from her childhood. She said it was something she often looked forward to, and she’s excited the tradition continues today.

“They were huge in Lock Haven in the 60s and 70s. When I moved back I really wanted to bring them back,” Sanders said. “It’s a time to come out and grab some bargains.”

Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. is partnering with the local businesses to offer a few other things to do and see while shoppers check out deals.

“Get ready to shop, stroll and soak up the summer vibes in Downtown Lock Haven! Our Summer Sidewalk Sales are back, bringing unbeatable deals from your favorite downtown shops, unique finds from local vendors and the perfect excuse to enjoy a sunny day on Main Street,” DLH Manager Melissa Dally said.

The Sidewalk Sales will include live entertainment in the East Main Street parking lot by acoustic duo 2 A.M. and line dancing, too.

“Shop local. Dine local. Play local. Whether you’re hunting for a bargain, enjoying the music or just taking in the small-town charm, this is the perfect way to celebrate summer in the heart of our community,” Dally said.
