LIONS NEWS
Since the Howard Area Lions were parking cars at Grange Fair, the food distribution normally scheduled for Monday, Aug. 18, has been moved to Monday, Aug. 25. Food distribution is from noon to 3 p.m. at the former Beech Creek Elementary.
Food distribution is for those residents who live in the Centre County areas of Blanchard, Howard, Hunter Run, Lamar, Marsh Creek, Monument, Mount Eagle and Orviston, and those living in the Clinton County area of Beech Creek Borough and Beech Creek Township.
Those seeking food bank aid should bring a sturdy box (or boxes) with you as there is always a need for larger boxes for food distributions.
Milesburg Lions Club holds a weekly Bingo every Thursday night at the Milesburg Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and Bingo starts at 6:45 p.m.
YARD SALES
Townwide Yard Sales will be held in Madisonburg on Sept. 4, 5 and 6. For more info call Mary at 814-404-1634
Milesburg’s Fall Yard Sales will be held Oct. 3-4.
If anyone has left over yarn from your yard sales that you haven’t sold, please consider donating it to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at the Bald Eagle United Presbyterian Church in Mill Hall. The Marsh Creek BIC Church is also collecting yarn for a mission’s project during August and September as well. We’d be glad to take that left-over yarn off your hands and let the PSM needleworkers turn it into beautiful items that are donated to people in need.
FCC EVENTS
The Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek will be having a Harvest Fest vendor sale on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by Erica Herr, this will be a small business vendor sale with lots of new items, crafts, baked goods and more. The kitchen will also be open during the event, too. If you’d like to be a vendor for this sale, contact Erica through Facebook or by calling 570-220-3366.
On Sunday, Sept. 7, there will be a memorial basket raffle to raise funds to pay for the final expenses of Calvin “Lou” Young. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and is being hosted by Louie’s brothers and sisters.
Louie passed away on July 7. He had been a bus driver for many years and treated the children on his bus just like they were his own.
Please provide a basket, gift cards/certificates, baked goods or monetary donations to help the family raise enough money to take care of the funeral home bill.
In addition to the basket raffle, there will be a 50/50, a bake sale and the kitchen will be open.

FALL FESTIVAL
Susquehanna Valley Big Twins Motorcycle Club is having a breakfast benefit from 7-11 a.m. on Sept. 20 along with a fall festival at the club house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The breakfast meals are $10 for adults and $6 for ages 6-12. Younger kiddos get to eat free!

In addition to the breakfast benefit that morning there will also be a basket raffle and DJ “Chet the Jet” will be live at the fall festival that will be held rain or shine!
SVBTMC is located at 84 Harley Dr., (Woolrich area), Lock Haven. The club has a mission to help the youth and those in need in our area and they do that by hosting a breakfast each month at their club house. COUNTRY JAM
The Back Porch String Band will hold their monthly Country Jam on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 2-6 p.m., at the Yearick Center/Howard fire hall. The public is invited to this free afternoon of music. If you play an instrument bring it along, or you can sit back, relax and enjoy the toe tappin tunes.
Attendees are asked to bring a snack to share during the afternoon. A hat is passed for folks to drop a few dollars in that benefits the fire company.
Country Jam is held at the Yearick Center the fourth Sunday of each month, but not in December. Call Connie at 814-625-2724 for more info on the Back Porch String Band.
SUMMER CONCERTS
Lamar Lighthouse Camp will be hosting their Summer Concert series each Sunday evening at 6 p.m. Each of the concerts is free and open to the public. A love offering is taken each week to further the ministry of both the groups performing and Lamar Lighthouse Camp.
The concert on Aug. 24 will feature New Journey and The Silers will be entertaining on Aug. 31.
The concert series continues through the month of September.

SUMMER PICNIC
Marsh Creek Brethren in Christ Church is having a Summer Picnic and outdoor service on Sunday, Aug. 31, beginning at 10 a.m. The public is invited. The theme of the service and picnic is “Your Summer in Words.”
Music, food, fellowship and a chance for everyone to share their stories from their summertime experiences will be enjoyed. The goal is to share together the highs and lows of this past summer.
We hope that all of the VBS attendees will join us as there will be several games and prizes for the children. Bring a lawn chair for comfortable seating during the service.
The picnic will follow the morning service in the church pavilion, with the meat and drinks being provided. You may bring a covered dish to share for the meal, but it’s not necessary.

CHEER CLUB
Cheer Club met on Aug. 7 at noon at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek.
There were 19 attending and all enjoyed a bountiful pot luck lunch.
We sang Happy Birthday to Emma Butler, and acknowledged that Larry and Emma will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary on Aug. 11.
Gene and Bonnie Auman also celebrated their wedding anniversary on Aug. 3 — 32 years of married life. We’re extremely thankful that Gene is doing much better in his battle with cancer.
Several poems and readings were heard, including a special poem by Jane Confer that she wrote for all of her friends, “Friendship Is a Blessing,” was the name of the poem.
The door prize, a beautiful multi-colored afghan, was brought by Tammy and won by Emma Butler.
The group enjoyed a Chinese auction game. Bingo games will be played at the next meeting that will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, at noon. Anyone 55 years of age and older is invited to bring a covered dish to share and attend our meetings.
UPCOMING EVENTS
Lemont Village Association will have their summer concerts on the Village Green each Friday night from 7:30-9 p.m. Tonight’s concert, Aug. 22, presents HOPS and VINES, with Christy Clancy and Jonathan McVerry — acoustic rock and roll perfect for dancing to.
If there is light rain the concert will go on, bring your umbrellas and raincoats. If thunder and lightning — then the concert will be moved indoors to the granary. Check the website around 5:15 p.m. on Friday to see if the concert will be moved indoors.
Bring a lawn chair and stop by for the free music. Ice cream cones will be available from Troop 367 starting at 7 p.m. for a donation to the scouts. Grandview Farms will be providing dine in and take out country style meals at their business at 144 Alandra St. in the Foothills Development, off Hubler Ridge Road, in rural Howard. The vegetables and meats are grown locally and are offered as part of their farm to table menus.
Grandview Farms will be open every Friday and Saturday with breakfast meals being sold from 7-11 a.m. and lunch meals on Friday will be offered from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Suppers will also be offered on Fridays from 2:30-7 p.m.

Bargains and Blessings Community Closet will be open on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot at Bossert Chiropractic, 2354 Eagle Valley Road, Beech Creek. Gently used, good quality clothing, shoes and accessories for the entire family are available. Sizes range from infants to 3X and are priced at $5 per bag full.
Centre Ballroom will be sponsoring a dance on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 2-5 p.m., at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte. Zupe will be providing the live music. Cost is $10/person and we encourage everyone to bring a snack to share. Call/text Rod at 717-543-8348 for more details.
Music at the Advent Church (located along Moose Run Road between Milesburg and Yarnell) is planned for Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. Bring a lawn chair to be more comfortable for the afternoon!
For the final event of the 2025 season at the Advent Historical Society, we are delighted to welcome back the Tussey Mountain Moonshiners. Hailing from Central Pa., this lively group blends bluegrass, Americana and more to create a style all their own. After the performance, guests can stick around for cider and donuts and to meet the musicians. The event will be held rain or shine and is free to attend.

POTPIE RETURNS
Wingate Faith Church is bringing back their pot pie fundraisers for the fall months. The church offers ham or chicken pot pie with samples of bread for $9 a quart. The first pot pie sale of the fall will be on Monday, Sept. 8, with pick-up beginning at 4 p.m. until all sold out.
Pre-ordering is best, so that you’re guaranteed to get yours! Pre-orders can be called in to Janette at 814-883-0893 and then just come to the church fellowship hall at 4 p.m. to get yours.
Mark your calendars that the upcoming pot-pie sale dates will be Oct. 13 and Nov. 10. You can place your orders for pot pie for the next sale when you pick up yours or call Janette closer to the upcoming sale days.
Wingate Faith Church is located at 111 Runville Road, Bellefonte, which is directly behind the Sheetz store in Wingate and sits next to Wingate Elementary.
FIRE NEWS
Pleasant Gap Fire Company holds a weekly flea market each Thursday at their carnival grounds to raise a few bucks to help the fire company during the summer months. Vendors can pick a spot for $20 and set up starting at 7 a.m., weather permitting, each week. Call Mark at 814-355-2753 for vendor info.
The flea market is scheduled to run until 2 p.m., but if customer traffic dwindles many vendors pack up early, so it’s best that you stop by the flea market before lunch time to make sure all the vendors are still open.

Centre Hall Fire Company will have a raffle ticket stand at Grange Fair with some nice cash prizes given away on Aug. 23.
Miles Township (Rebersburg) Fire Company will have a prize raffle on Saturday, Sept. 13. Tickets are on sale now for $10 each or 3/$20. There are 30 prizes to be given away on this raffle that includes guns and a 2025 Honda Pioneer side by side.
Pleasant Gap Fire Company will have a Gun Raffle on Sept. 13, from noon to 4 p.m. Gates to the carnival grounds will open at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10. Must be 21 with a photo ID to enter.
Centre Hall Fire Company will hold a Mega Cash Bingo on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the station. Tickets are $50.
Centre Hall Fire Company volunteers will be starting up their monthly first Friday night Bingo on Oct. 3. More details and times will be coming later. Tickets are also available for the CHFC’s Gun Raffle that will be held May 16, 2026.
Nittany Valley Fire Company will have their annual Sportsmen’s Raffle on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 3-8 p.m., at the fire station in Lamar. Tickets are $10.
Howard Fire Company’s annual Gun Raffle will be held on Nov. 8 from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10. There are 10 cash and 10 gun prizes this year along with a special Bingo game ball prize of a gun cabinet with three mystery guns.
Get your tickets early for the Millheim Fire Company’s annual gun drawing on April 11, 2026. These are bargain priced at 3/$20 and sell out pretty quick. This year there are 25 prizes on the ticket stub which includes guns, cash, a Yeti cooler and sportsman’s items like binoculars, a spotting scope and range finder.
