Free book fair and costless closet

St. Mark Lutheran Church, at 850 Snydertown Road, Howard, will host its annual Free Book Fair and Costless Closet event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20. Hundreds of free books, media, puzzles, games, CDs and DVDS will be available to take, along with gently used and clean clothes. Various foods and baked goods also will be available to purchase during the day. For those attending, you are invited to bring an unexpired food item or monetary donation to help the St. Mark Food Pantry.

St. Mark is accepting clothes, books and media donations for the event that are in good condition. Items can be dropped off at the church on Sept. 12 and 13 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Call 814-383-4882 or visit stmarksnydertown.wixsite.com/snydertown for info.

Writers Network

The Nittany Valley Writers Network will meet tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m., in Schlow Library’s Community Room, 211 S. Allen St., State College. Author and graphic designer L. Bossi will speak on self-publishing and creating her trilogy of fully illustrated high fantasy novels — The Piri Project: Exordium, Nadir and Apotheosis. The event is free and open to the public. The Nittany Valley Writers Network is a sharing, supportive community linking local writers of all genres and levels of experience. Milesburg will be holding their fall yard sales on Oct. 3-4 this year.

Hymn Sing

Dunnstown United Methodist Church invites everyone to a Hymn Sing on Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at the church. The Twisted Racquet-Tears will be leading the sing-a-long and playing those old familiar tunes that everyone knows and loves that you can sing along to. The event is free and open to the public.

Wayne Township History for sale

The Wayne Township Recreational Committee is offering their book, “A Township Called Wayne,” for a price of $10. This book will make a nice gift for family and friends, especially historians and those with ties to the Wayne Township community.
