Shoe Bank to give free sneakers, school items this Saturday
PHOTO PROVIDED Joy Frankowsky, of Renovo, shows her new sneakers from the Lock Haven Shoe Bank.
LOCK HAVEN — The Shoe Bank will be open by appointment Saturday, Sept. 20, inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
Eligible kids and teens may come and choose a pair of new shoes (most are sneakers) and some new socks. They can also choose books to own.
Free new back-to-school items will be given this month, too.
Little ones through high school teens are eligible if their families live anywhere in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin School attendance area. The family must have an active Compass app or a Compass paper. Those who don’t have Compass may be referred by an agency, church, or organization.
To book your time slot, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., contact Diahann at (1)-814-571-5324, any weeknight from 7-9 p.m. You may even text or call her the morning of Sept. 20, just in case they have a last-minute opening.
If you are ill or can’t keep your appointment for any reason, please call to reschedule. The Shoe Bank keeps a waiting list.
Funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, the M&T Bank Charitable Foundation, civic groups, churches and individual donors.
The Shoe Bank is an all-volunteer organization. Anyone interested in lending a hand is welcome to come and check things out. Volunteers are needed for Shoe Bank Saturdays and for the work sessions held every Thursday afternoon. The Shoe Bank is also looking for people who might be able to step in when a regular volunteer is not available.
For more information, reach out to Diahann, contact Wendy Doherty at 570-295-3443, or find “Lock Haven Shoe Bank” on Facebook.
Please spread the word to any family you know who might be able to use this service.
