Fundraiser to assist local woman in need of heart transplant

2 min read

BLANCHARD -- The community is once again rallying around a person in need.

A chicken barbeque fundraiser and basket raffle will be held for Kristy Dolan on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 12:30 p.m., at Blanchard Church of Christ, 161 Beach St., Blanchard

Kristy Dolan, a wife, mother and grandmother, was diagnosed with a genetic condition called LMNA Cardiomyopathy.

It causes life threatening arrhythmias and heart failure. She has been going to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for treatment for over 20 years and has had multiple cardiac procedures to help treat and delay the progression of the muscle decline.

Her heart has weakened to the point of affecting her kidneys due to lack of blood flow leading to the need for a heart transplant.

Kristy was able to have the heart transplant two weeks ago and is in recovery at this time in Baltimore.

Kristy and her husband, Gary, have been and will be making several trips to Johns Hopkins for check-ups and treatments after discharge.

Because of the extent of the procedure, Kristy has stepped back from work since the surgery will require months of recovery and change in lifestyle. Gary also needs to take an extended time off of work to care for her in Baltimore and when they get home.

There will be extensive costs associated with her medical care, meals and travel. She will be required to stay in the area for several weeks after discharge as well.

The basket raffle and barbeque is one way the community is looking to help lighten the financial burden the couple will have so they can focus on Kristy's healing.

If you are not able to attend and would like to donate, please use the QR code in the poster and put Kristy Dolan in the note to ensure they receive the donation.

You may call Sabrina at 718-496-6827 for more info or to donate a basket for the raffle.

Starting at /week.
