Farmers Care: County farm bureau holds donation drive for Ronald McDonald House
LOGANTON — Clinton County Farm Bureau celebrates the Farmers Care Event by collecting a donation of food, monies and other needed items for the Ronald McDonald House in Danville to be delivered on March 10.
Farmers Care is a program that recognizes the commitment of farm families to raising healthy food for our communities, at the same time showing the way farmers volunteer to help those in need. Pennsylvania Farm Bureau has supported this program for 28 years by collecting food and monetary donations for Ronald McDonald House charities.
“The Ronald McDonald House is a wonderful program that provides needed resources and services to members of our community,” said Clinton County Farm Bureau President Cory Chelko. “It takes a lot of support from various groups to provide this charitable service for our county. It’s a perfect way for us to recognize the bounty from our farms.”
The Danville House reported in 2025 they updated new windows in the guest rooms. They also updated a section of the landscaping in the front circle of the house to add new plants, benches and tables for families to enjoy a peaceful moment outside.
In 2025, they had 90 campers at Camp Dot and served approximately 9,100 guests. Since 1981, 453,000 guests have been served, but in Clinton County, there have been over 1,383 families that have stayed at the Danville Ronald McDonald House between 1981-2025.
Ronald McDonald Houses across the state provide a “Home away from home” for many families of seriously ill children who receive medical treatment. In Pennsylvania, many of these families must travel long distances from their rural communities to receive proper care. The house is run by donations, they ask $15 per night but many don’t have it but are not turned away. COVID-19 has changed the wish list needs to more individual items.
The PFB Women Leadership Committee invites local churches, schools, 4-H clubs and FFA and other organizations to participate in the Farmers Care Event. This year, the collection will be Feb. 1 thru March 2. We are asking for donations and there are many ways to give. The PFB donation drive lasts about 6 months.
The collections should be individual ready to eat meals, snacks, cereal boxes, cooking oil, PAM cooking spray, icing, pasta, condiments, 8oz Solo cups, 12oz to go sups, heavy duty paper plates, aluminum foil and toilet paper or gift cards from Weis, Target, Walmart, Giant and Amazon. Checks can be made out to “Ronald McDonald House of Danville.”
The Ronald McDonald House has a special program called the “Can Tab Collection,” where you can save aluminum can tabs. Any can tabs collected will be delivered along with the other items and food. All proceeds from this collection are used to offset operational costs. Thank you for your dedication to the Danville house which allows families to stay together near the medical care they need.
