PHOTO PROVIDED

The Lock Haven University Track and Field Team volunteered to set up chairs, vendor and display tables and a portable ice-skating rink for the Second Annual PA Chestnut Festival on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Castanea Fireman’s Picnic Grounds and Building in Lock Haven. The event is sponsored by the Castanea Township Recreation Committee and supervisors and is expected to attract 800 to 1,000 attendees with vendors, food, craft brews, wine, live music, educational displays, ice skating, roasted chestnuts and s’mores. The event recognizes the heritage of the American Chestnut Tree to Castanea and the restoration efforts in the region. Township officials thanked the athletes for their service in performing many outdoor tasks on a bitter cold afternoon. This is the second year the team has performed volunteer service for the event. The effort was organized by Coach Aaron Russell.

Starting at $3.69/week.
