Shoe Bank to give shoes, boots Feb. 21

PHOTO PROVIDED Longtime Shoe Bank volunteer Jeanne Baker sorts new socks for kids and teens. On the table in front of her are a very large and a very small pair of shoes that were available the month this photo was taken.

LOCK HAVEN — The Shoe Bank will be open Saturday, Feb. 21, to give eligible kids and teens free new footwear. This is the last time this season that free new boots will be available.

Children and teens through age 17 or still in high school may choose a pair of new boots, plus a pair of new sneakers or shoes, some new socks, books, hats and other warm winter accessories. They will find a good selection of footwear in all full sizes and most half sizes.

Everything is free.

The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank is inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven, and is generally open one Saturday a month from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Appointments are required.

The Shoe Bank serves little ones through high school teens whose families have Compass and live in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin Elementary School attendance area. Families who don’t have Compass may be referred by an agency, church or other organization.

To book your appointment, text or call Diahann at 814-571-5324, any weeknight from 7-9 p.m. You may also contact her the morning of Feb. 21, just in case there’s a last-minute opening.

If you are ill or can’t keep your appointment for any other reason, please contact her to reschedule. She does keep a waiting list.

Major funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, with other funding from the M&T Bank Charitable Foundation, churches, civic groups and individual donors.

The Shoe Bank is an all-volunteer organization. Anyone interested in lending a hand is welcome to check it out. More volunteers are needed for the Saturdays the Shoe Bank is open and for Thursday afternoon work sessions. The Shoe Bank is also looking for people to be on a call list for times when a regular volunteer needs to cancel.

For more information, reach out to Diahann, text or call Wendy Doherty at 570-295-3443 or find “Lock Haven Shoe Bank” on Facebook.

And, please spread the word to any family you know who might be able to use this service.
