Wayne Township announces its America250PA events

McELHATTAN — In recognition of our nation’s 250th birthday, Wayne Township is planning several events for the weekend of May 29-31.

The supervisors are funding the weekend and have tasked the recreation committee with planning events that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. The group has announced the following schedule of events:

Friday, May 29: Memorial Walk

This kick-off event, co-sponsored by the Truck-Lite Community Committee, will be held late afternoon/early evening at the Wayne Township Nature Park. The recreation committee is working to secure a guest speaker and others for our opening ceremony, followed by a walk along the decorated memorial path and light refreshments. This event is sure to inspire all who attend.

Saturday, May 30: 5K walk/run

A 5K walk/run on the Bald Eagle Valley Trail (BEVT) event will occur on the Spook Hollow portion of the trail with an 8:30 a.m. race time (late registration and check-in at 8 a.m.). Located alongside the beautiful Susquehanna River, the route will include crossing the bridge at Katie’s Crossing. Registration is open at www.runsignup.com. Early registrants will receive a t-shirt; all participants will receive a commemorative America250PA medallion. Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring the race by having their name and/or logo printed on the t-shirt should contact Deb at 570-660-5737 or send a message on Facebook.

To sign up for the 5K WALK/RUN, you may search for Wayne Twp. Clinton County on the Runsignup homepage or use the following link to register: runsignup.com/Races?s=&name=wayne+twp+clinton+county

Following the race, there will be an opportunity for those who need walking assistance to be transported via golf cart atop the bridge for a view of the river, mountains and habitat surrounding the area. While on the bridge, participants are encouraged to take photographs as they enjoy this memorable experience. There is no registration required for this portion of the event. Stay tuned for more details regarding time, parking, etc.

At the conclusion of this event, the Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Company will be preparing a delicious chicken BBQ with sides. Please stop by for lunch/takeout. Menu and pricing information to be announced.

Sunday, May 31: Outdoor Tent

Service

McElhattan Pathway to Christ Church will conduct an outdoor tent service followed by an old-fashioned ice cream social. Both events will be held at the church on McElhattan Drive. Additionally, the church will be selling a beautiful, hand-made, commemorative 250th ornament. Pop up sales will occur prior to our celebration weekend for both the ornament and the township historical book, “A Township Called Wayne.”

Please follow Wayne Township Recreation Board on Facebook for the most up-to-date information.
