Garden of the Month Awards to begin in May

LOCK HAVEN — The “Garden of the Month” award program, sponsored by the Dogwood Circle Garden Club of Lock Haven and The Express, will present this year’s first award in May.

Since 1994, selected gardeners have been recognized for their efforts and dedication to keep the Lock Haven area a “Blooming Community.” The program recognizes area gardeners who live within a 10 mile radius of Lock Haven.

This year’s theme, in conjunction with the 250th celebration of the United States, is “Plant America.” Factors considered for judging are: street/curb appeal, variety of plants used, overall design flow, integrating “Americana” features and originality.

Each month two garden club members will judge and select the winning garden from nominations received. The owners of the selected garden will be asked if they wish to accept the award before it is officially presented. They will then receive a commemorative certificate, and a photograph of the owner and garden will be featured in The Express and on the club’s website.

In addition, the “Garden of the Month” sign will be placed in the winning garden and remain on the property for the month, until the next garden is honored.

Enhancing the community and promoting community spirit have been goals of the garden club award since its inception. Join the Dogwood Circle as they celebrate the 250th celebration of our country. The club is looking forward to another exciting and colorful season and the opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the pride and commitment of local gardeners.

Nominations for the month of May are welcome and can be submitted by calling May’s judges: Cathy at 570-295-3860 or Judy at 570-726-4426.
