KCSD encourages retirees to become SMILES volunteers

MILL HALL — The Keystone Central School District is encouraging local retirees to consider becoming a SMILES Program volunteer.

Through this program, eligible senior residents can volunteer in district schools and receive up to a $500 credit on next year’s school property taxes.

Participants complete 69 hours of volunteer service during the school year while supporting students, teachers and school programs in areas such as classrooms, libraries, cafeterias, offices and enrichment activities, according to information shared by the district.

To qualify, participants must be retired, own residential property in the district and meet federal income guidelines. Required clearances must also be submitted.

If you are interested in participating, or if you know someone who currently resides in the district and meets these qualifications, please have them contact the Keystone Central District Office at 570-893-4900 ext. 2325 for more information or to request an application.

“We greatly value the experience and support our senior volunteers bring to our schools and students,” a release from the district said.

Starting at $3.69/week.
