JERSEY SHORE -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced it will institute a width restriction for vehicles in the area of its bridge restoration project in the Jersey Shore area.
The project, which has been ongoing since spring, will see the restoration of a bridge on a portion of state Route 44 that crosses the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and connects Nippenose Township and Jersey Shore Borough.
According to a release from PennDOT, the week of Monday, June 1, the contractor, Spartan Contracting, LLC, will perform steel repairs and continue constructing a work platform in preparation for painting.
"Drivers can expect single lane restrictions with flagging during daylight hours while this work is being performed," the release said.
The release noted the impacts for traffic and restrictions that will take place this coming week. They include:
-- Traffic signals at the intersection of Route 44 and Main Street will be placed in flashing mode and traffic will be maintained by flaggers during daylight hours on Monday, June 1.
-- A 13-feet by 6-inch height restriction is in effect on the river bridge and will remain through the duration of the project.
-- On Tuesday, June 2, a 10-feet width restriction will be implemented on the river bridge and will remain throughout the duration of the project.
-- On Tuesday, June 2, temporary traffic signals will be turned on and a truck detour will be implemented with a single lane condition and will remain in place for the duration of the project.
Spartan Contracting is the prime contractor for this $3.1 million bridge restoration project. Work on the project includes steel repairs and painting. Work on the project is anticipated to be completed in the fall 2026, weather permitting.
