Hobo King to present at Poorman Gallery on May 31
LOCK HAVEN — Luther the Jet, Hobo King in 1995-96 and again 2024-25, will be visiting Clinton County on May 31, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Poorman Gallery, 352 E. Water St., Lock Haven.
Following a stint in the Army and a PHD in French Literature from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Luther was drawn by the lure of the rails to start hopping freights again, something he hadn’t done since he was a kid growing up in Pennsylvania.
Luther has written a number of songs and poems about his freight riding experiences and he is a regular performer at the National Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa, where he has been elected King of the Hobos twice.
Luther’s trips have been short and transcontinental in scope and the people and experiences he had in his travels are reflected in the stories, songs and poems during his presentation.
The Poorman Gallery will open at 1 p.m. on May 31 for those who want to purchase a brick for the sidewalks to be installed at the Heisey Museum during 2026. The brick project is a fundraiser for the Clinton County Historical Society whose mission is to collect, preserve and share the history of the county. Brick applications are also online at www.clintoncountypahistory.org. This website may also be used to learn about coming events, membership, making a donation or request research.
