FCC BENEFIT

A basket raffle to benefit Betsy Bressi Falls will be held on Sunday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Friendship Community Center in Beech Creek.

Betsy is battling oropharyngeal (throat) cancer. This benefit will help her with medical costs, travel expenses to doctor appointments and monthly household bills. Funds will help Betsy worry less about her financial state and be able to concentrate her energy on staying strong and beating cancer!

Donations of baskets, prizes and gift cards are needed for the event and can be brought to the community center on Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

The kitchen will be open during the benefit selling good food. There will also be a bake sale and other chances to raise funds during the day.

Winners need not be present. You’ll be called and can arrange a convenient pick-up time to retrieve your items.

To donate a prize or to help in other ways, call Zena Heverly at 570-367-3863,

LIONS NEWS

Howard Area Lions Food Bank distribution will be on May 18. Distribution is handled from the former Beech Creek Elementary and runs from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Bring a sturdy box (or boxes) with you.

Master Gardeners will be there on May 18 to distribute garden plants, free of charge, and to offer growing tips for your summer growing season.

Centre County food vouchers that can be used at certain farmers’ markets in the area will be handed out at the Food Bank distribution, too. Only Centre County residents will be eligible to receive these vouchers. We haven’t received word on when the Clinton County vouchers will be available, but will let you know. You can check with the Clinton County STEP Office to see when those vouchers would be available.

Centre County residents can also call the Office of Aging in Bellefonte to see if they meet the income guidelines for receiving the farmers market food vouchers.

The farmers market vouchers can be used at the Amish produce stores (like Bald Eagle Produce along Route 150 in Beech Creek), but you must buy foods grown in Pa.

The Lions business meeting on Tuesday, May 19, will be held at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall since the Howard fire hall is not available because of Election Day voting. All club officers and original charter members are encouraged to attend for photographs to be taken.

Howard Area Lions will have their Memorial Service on Friday, May 22, at the Foster Joseph Sayers Medal of Honor Memorial Monument at the breast of the dam. The Lions will be coordinating the program with the Centre County Veterans Affairs office this year. Both the Centre and Clinton County Veterans Affairs offices participate each year, but take turns in helping to formally organize the annual program.

During the memorial program the new bricks in the Walk of Honor at the monument are unveiled. Anyone can purchase an engraved brick with a veterans name on it for the walkway. I think the bricks are $65. If you’re interested in purchasing a brick and having it engraved so it can be laid in the walkway, you can contact Lion Lloyd Rhoades for an application. Lion Lloyd’s email is lar2psu@gmail.com or you can call him at 814-355-1776.

More info will follow on the memorial service as it draws closer.

Howard Area Lions Bingo will be held on May 28 at the Beech Creek Fire Company social hall. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. May 28 will be the last evening of Lions Bingo until September since the Lions take a break from Bingo during the summer months.

Milesburg Lions Club holds a weekly Bingo every Thursday night at the Milesburg Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and Bingo starts at 6:45 p.m.

CLUB’S BREAKFAST

Susquehanna Valley Big Twins Motorcycle Club is having a breakfast on Saturday, May 16, from 7-11 a.m. The all you can eat, hardy breakfast is just $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 6-12 years. Younger kiddos get to eat free. The SVBTMC offers a breakfast each month so the club can raise money to help people in the community who are going through some critical hardships.

There won’t be a basket benefit for anyone during the May breakfast at the club. Some months the club allows families or organizations to have a basket raffle during their breakfasts to help raise funds when they’re needed.

You’ll want to be sure to come out for the May breakfast since there won’t be a breakfast during June or July.

SVBTMC is located at 84 Harley Drive, (Woolrich), Lock Haven. For more info on the club, call club president Brad Darby at 570-295-6577 or club secretary Bev Confair at 570-220-1919 or visit the club’s website and Facebook page.

KBR BINGO BENEFIT

We can’t begin to imagine the devastation that David Stoltzfus must be enduring as he lost his wife, six children and his home in an explosive fire in April near Rote, but we can certainly keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

We can also help to raise funds so that he can move forward and be able to get things that he needs.

Susan Brownson is hosting a Bingo Benefit for David at KBR Bingo on Saturday, May 30. The Amish bishop has granted his approval of this benefit. Tickets will be $25 and will be available by contacting Susan at 570-367-9996 or get yours at the door on the day of Bingo.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and Bingo starts at 1 p.m. There will be plenty of good food, including a chicken BBQ at the Bingo hall.

In addition to food and Bingo there will also be a basket raffle. Baskets are needed, and we’re asking for everyone’s help in donating a basket or gift card for the raffle. If you can donate a prize for the raffle, please contact Susan to make arrangements for pickup or drop off at KBR Bingo.

More info on this benefit will be passed along to you here, and you can visit the KBR Facebook page or call Susan directly.
