Leadership Clinton County participants gathered Friday, May 1 for an immersive, day-long session focused on agriculture and environmental stewardship, gaining firsthand insight into the industries and organizations that shape the region’s natural and economic landscape.
The session began at Dotterer’s Dairy in Mill Hall. Participants learned about modern dairy operations, sustainability practices and the challenges facing local agriculture.
The group then traveled to the Clinton County Conservation District for an engaging environmental and agriculture panel.
Experts representing key organizations — including Penn State Cooperative Extension, the Clinton County Conservation District, Wildlife Leadership Academy and Sproul State Forest — shared perspectives on conservation, land management, wildlife education, and agricultural innovation.
The class continued its exploration with a visit to Wayne Township Landfill.

Kristen McKivison led a discussion and tour highlighting waste management practices, environmental safeguards, and the importance of responsible resource use.
The day concluded at Pine Creek Seed Farm, where Jen McCracken and Matt Zerby provided a tour and discussed seed production and the role of local agriculture in supporting food systems.
Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Clinton County’s economy, supporting local jobs, driving related industries and preserving the rural character that defines the region.
Experiences like this leadership session highlight not only the complexity of modern agriculture, but also its vital role in ensuring long-term economic stability and environmental sustainability for the community.
