LOCK HAVEN — The Shoe Bank will be open Saturday, May 9, and then will close for two months, re-opening in August.
The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank is inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
The program gives free new shoes to wee ones through high school seniors whose families live anywhere in Clinton County or the Liberty-Curtin School attendance area. The family must have an active Compass app or a Compass paper. Those who don’t have Compass may be referred by an agency, a church or another organization.
Eligible children and teens can come and choose a pair of new shoes, new socks and books. Everything is free.
Appointments are required and are available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. To book yours, contact Diahann at 814-571-5324, any weeknight from 7-9 p.m. You may text or call as late as the morning of May 9.
They keep a waiting list, so if you are ill or can’t keep your appointment for any reason, please call to reschedule.
The Shoe Bank is an all-volunteer organization, and anyone interested in lending a hand is welcome to check it out. More volunteers are needed for the Saturdays the Shoe Bank is open, as well as for Thursday afternoon work sessions. The Shoe Bank is also looking for people willing to be on a substitute list.
Funding is provided by the Clinton County Community Foundation, the M&T Bank Charitable Foundation, civic groups, churches and other donors.
If you know of a family who could use this free service, please pass the word.
