LOCK HAVEN — A recent fundraising effort by Nittany MinitMart is bringing more than $33,000 back into the communities it serves, with proceeds benefiting local YMCA organizations.
Over the course of several weeks, the convenience store chain collected a total of $33,442.12 through a round-up initiative, where customers could opt to round their purchases up to the nearest dollar. The funds will be distributed among 13 local YMCA organizations — including the Jersey Shore and Lock Haven YMCAs — based on how much was raised in each community.
“This really speaks to the generosity of our customers,” said Nicole Masullo, Senior Vice President of Nittany MinitMart. “Their round-up donations added up to make a big difference, and we’re so excited to give everything we raised together to the YMCAs that are doing important work in our communities.”
The contributions are expected to support a range of YMCA programs, including financial assistance for youth participation and summer programming aimed at providing safe, engaging opportunities for children. Local YMCAs rely in part on community partnerships and donations to expand access to their services, particularly for families who may not otherwise be able to afford them.
Nittany MinitMart, which operates 28 stores throughout northern and central Pennsylvania, has made giving back to communities part of its culture. Over the past year, the company has raised funds for local food banks, volunteer fire departments, programs supporting hospitalized children and more.
Masullo said the company is proud to be able to give back in a way that directly impacts its customers. “We’re happy to support the YMCA and the role it plays in strengthening the communities we serve.”
Now, Nittany MinitMart is continuing its community giving through “Fuel the Cause,” an annual fundraiser that allows customers to give back to their local fire companies when they fuel up at the gas pump or round up in-store.
