MONTOURSVILLE — Williamsport Regional Airport (IPT) has received a $900,000 grant through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) to rehabilitate approximately 2,500 feet of Taxiway B and extend the pavement’s useful life.

According to a release from the airport, the federally funded project will support critical infrastructure improvements designed to maintain safe and efficient aircraft operations at the airport. Rehabilitation work on Taxiway B will help preserve pavement integrity, improve airfield reliability and reduce future maintenance needs.

“This investment represents a significant commitment to the long-term safety and operational efficiency of Williamsport Regional Airport,” said Eric B. McKitish, Sr., IPT executive director. “Maintaining and improving our airfield infrastructure is essential to supporting the businesses, travelers and communities that rely on our airport every day.”

The Airport Improvement Program provides federal funding for projects that enhance safety, capacity, security and environmental sustainability at public-use airports across the country.

The Taxiway B rehabilitation project is part of the airport’s continued efforts to modernize infrastructure and maintain compliance with FAA standards, the release said.

Taxiway B serves as a critical component of aircraft movement throughout the airfield, connecting aircraft to runways and other operational areas. Extending the taxiway’s useful life will help ensure continued reliability and safe access for commercial, corporate, medical and general aviation traffic, the release said.
