HOWARD -- Enjoy a sweet summer afternoon at Curtin Village on Sunday, July 26, at 2 p.m., during a special Ice Cream Sundae Tour at Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village. Guests will be treated to locally made ice cream from Mill Hall's Ice Shack while discovering one of central Pennsylvania's most important 19th-century ironmaking communities.
This event is made possible through the generous support of Bellefonte's bed and breakfast community, including Bellefonte B & B, The Queen, Riffles & Runs, Our Fair Lady, Craftsman on Curtin and the Reynold's Mansion. Guided tours led by volunteers of the Roland Curtin Foundation offer a welcoming introduction to the site, interior access to the mansion and furnace complex and an engaging look at how iron was produced using local resources: iron ore, limestone, charcoal and water.
Curtin Village is located at 251 Curtin Village Road, Howard. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated to support the continued preservation and interpretation of this historic landmark.
Mark your calendar for Curtin Village's Heritage Day on Aug. 9 featuring a 1 p.m. dedication of a C&O caboose donated by John Gummo.
