Skeleton Key Boutique announces closure

Owners thank community for support over years

LOCK HAVEN — Skeleton Key Boutique, 19 E. Main St., will permanently close its doors on Aug. 8, 2026, owner Abigail announced this week, citing ongoing financial challenges despite significant efforts to revitalize the downtown retail business.

Abigail purchased the boutique in December 2024 with the goal of rebuilding the business and continuing to provide Lock Haven shoppers with a unique retail experience. In a statement announcing the closure, she said she spent the past year and a half investing substantial time, energy and resources into regrowing the boutique, but sales ultimately did not reach the level needed to sustain operations.

“Passion alone cannot keep a business open,” she said, adding that the decision came only after “much thought and prayer.”

The owner emphasized that the closure was not due to a lack of experience. She also owns WillowBranch Boutique in Duncansville, a business she founded and has successfully operated for several years. She said she brought the same commitment and dedication to Skeleton Key Boutique but acknowledged that every small business depends on consistent customer support to remain financially viable.

Following the closure, Abigail plans to focus on WillowBranch Boutique, volunteer work and spending more time with her family. She noted that balancing the demands of operating two businesses had made maintaining a healthy work-life balance increasingly difficult.

She expressed gratitude to customers who supported the boutique through purchases, events, social media engagement and referrals, saying their encouragement meant more than they realized.

Abigail also thanked the Lock Haven business community for welcoming her and supporting her throughout her time as a downtown business owner.

Skeleton Key Boutique will remain open through Aug. 8, giving customers an opportunity to shop during the store’s final weeks. Gift cards purchased during Abigail’s ownership may be redeemed in-store or online through the closing date. After Aug. 8, any remaining balances will be honored at WillowBranch Boutique, both in-store and online. Additional information regarding sales and purchases can additionally be found on the boutique’s Facebook page.

Although Skeleton Key Boutique’s chapter is coming to an end, Abigail said she looks forward to continuing to serve customers through WillowBranch Boutique and expressed appreciation for the friendships, connections and memories made during her time in the Lock Haven community.

Starting at $4.10/week.
