CURTIN VILLAGE
On Sunday, Aug. 23, you can step back in time during the 2 p.m. afternoon guided tour at Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village. Guided tours explain the activities at an iron plantation in central Pennsylvania and lead you through the Curtin Mansion and all of the components of the iron furnace.
Along the way, you'll discover the site's newest addition--a red railroad caboose, recently welcomed into the collection. This cabin car and the historic Curtin Village Road crossing sign contribute to the story of the Bald Eagle Valley Railroad and the importance of rail transportation to the success of the iron works.
Whether you're strolling the mansion lawn, exploring the furnace buildings where the last charcoal fired iron was produced in Pennsylvania, or climbing aboard the caboose, each stop offers a vivid glimpse into Pennsylvania's 19th‑century heritage. History, heritage and a dash of railroad charm await visitors this Sunday afternoon, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. Donations are much appreciated to maintain the property, mow the grass and heat the mansion. Self-guided tour visitors are welcome daily, dawn to dusk, at no charge. All donations support the all-volunteer, nonprofit Roland Curtin Foundation.
