About the turn of the century, much intercity travel was by train. When "drummers," travel salesmen and others, hit the town, they hired a rig -- horse and buggy -- from the local livery stable. The Paul Ely livery, dray and exchange stable, pictured here on an unknown date, was on North Vesper Street, near the river.
