HUBLERSBURG -- The Nittany Valley Amish community will once again be hosting a benefit dinner on Saturday, Oct. 3, for the public to partake of a traditional Amish wedding meal. The goal is to create an exceptional dining experience with a buffet-style, all you can eat meal, prepared by some of the best cooks in the community.
The main course of the meal includes roasted chicken and filling, ham, mashed potatoes, baked beans, noodles, cole slaw, creamed celery and apple salad, along with lemonade and coffee. The dessert tables will be filled with a flavorful variety of homemade pies, cakes, doughnuts, vanilla pudding and ice cream.
Prices are $25 for those 18-64; $23 for those 65 and older as well as children ages 11-17 and $12 for children ages 5-10. Children ages four and younger eat for free. Take-out meals are $22 each.
The benefit dinner is offered from noon until 7 p.m. There are seven different hourly meal slots that you may choose from: 12-1 p.m; 1-2 p.m.; 2-3 p.m., etc. The last meal slot is from 6-7 p.m. Bear in mind that generally the 5-6 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. time slots are frequently crowded and a short wait may result.
It's best to make a reservation for your meal slot so you won't have to wait long. Walk-ins are also welcome. Reservations may be made by calling Sylvia at 814-810-7959 or Dorothy at 814-810-8664. Payment is by cash or checks only and can be made at the door. Payment and reservations may also be mailed to John Glick, 196 Hoy Road, Howard, PA 16841. The Walker Township Fire Hall has proven to be an ideal location for hosting these benefit dinners. The fire station is located in Hublersburg at 125 Fire House Lane, Howard.

Proceeds from the Oct. 3 benefit dinner will go towards helping to offset the expenses of the Amish schools in the area. As the Amish community continues to grow, plans are to build another school house in the very near future to accommodate the students.
