Local groups take home top honors in Brews in the Barn annual chili contest

MILL HALL -- Though beer is a central part of Millbrook Playhouse's annual Brews in the Barn fundraiser, held Oct. 17, there's another key focus -- chili.

Over 400 individuals had the chance to taste test a variety of chilis, from local restaurants to individuals who looked to showcase their skills, and vote for their favorites.

By the end of the night, after dishing out gallons of comfort food that helped attendees fight off the fall chill, two groups received the People's Choice Award.

First place for people's choice went to It's Chili with second place going to Fire Flower.

A panel of judges, made up of Angela Harding, Jason Madigan and Shonah Hunter, tested all the chilis to determine the winners of the annual contest.

First place for the restaurant category went to Geared Up Chili; second place went to The Village Tavern.

The judges also selected the best home cooked chilis. The winners were:

-- It's Chili in first place

-- Boozin Buddies in second place

-- Boozin Buddies in third place with another chili

Continuing the spirit of competition, those who attended Saturday's event also had the chance to vote for the best brew.

According to organizers, two businesses took home top honors. They included:

-- Bald Eagle Beer Distributor in first place

-- Point & Pine in second place.

While enjoying their food and drink, attendees were treated to live music by the Clark McClane band and had the opportunity to take in the Penn State game on the patio.

Organizers thank the following sponsors for their support in putting together a successful event: Diversified Asset Planners, Every Event and Tent Rentals and Peters Disposal.
