BELLEFONTE -- The Advent Historical Society announces an upcoming live concert event at the Advent Church, 1303 Moose Run Road, Bellefonte, on Sunday, Oct. 4. The upcoming Octoberfest performance will feature The Little German Band from State College. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and the show starts at 2 p.m. The concert will be followed by an apple cider and doughnut reception.
Organized in 1960, the Little German Band is celebrating more than 60 years of "Oompah" music and is the oldest continually performing community band in Centre County. The group began by playing German-style Christmas carols in the streets of State College and has grown to performing over 40 concerts a year and making several recordings. Besides performing across Pennsylvania, the band has toured in Ohio, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.
This event is free, open to the public and is suitable for all ages. Donations are accepted towards the preservation and upkeep of the historic site.
The Advent Historical Society was established in 1985 to save the historic Advent Church building from demolition. Thanks to the preservation efforts and support of local families, the old Advent Church, built in 1849, survives as an important document of the religious history of Centre County and as a symbol of the community of farmers and iron workers who settled the area in the 19th century.
