A group of men from the 728th Maintenance Battalion, 28th Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard, worked Saturday and Sunday, April 25 and 26, 1970, on a volunteer basis to "open" Cree Drive. This involved removal of the sod and some leveling, according to Engineer Warren H. Ohl. The 1,600-foot road, to be an access to the new-at-the-time Clinton County Home, extended from Irwin St. and Cleveland St. westward to Pine View Drive in Flemington. The project was financed entirely by the county. Ohl said the county would move in heavy equipment to finish the sub-grading, after which the roadway would be turned over to the city and a contract would be let for the final paving. In the photo, S.4 Thomas Conklin is shown operating a grader as S.4 Willis Swinehart directs the progress.
