MILMONT, Pa. -- The crisp autumn air was filled with excitement, laughter and the sounds of adventure on Oct. 17, 2026, as over 300 Cub Scouts, leaders and family members gathered at Camp Karoondinha for the Susquehanna Council Scouting America annual Cub Scout event.

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Susquehanna Council camp, the action-packed day offered youth a wide array of hands-on activities designed to test their skills, spark their curiosity and foster scouting camaraderie.

From the crackle of BB guns and the steady draw of archery bows on the shooting sports range to the creative buzz of crafting and STEM experiments, there was never a dull moment. Scouts cheered as custom-built bottle rockets launched high into the autumn sky and engaged in friendly competition across various field games. One of the day's culinary highlights was the chance for Scouts to build and cook their own delicious mountain pies over an open flame.

A unique feature of this year's gathering was a special connection to the wider world through JOTA (Jamboree on the Air). Thanks to the Susquehanna Valley Amateur Radio Club, which generously provided the equipment and expertise, Scouts had the rare opportunity to talk on an amateur radio (ham radio). Youth connected directly with other Scouts all across the United States, experiencing firsthand a worldwide tradition that happens every year on the third full weekend of October.

As evening fell, the energy shifted from high-octane fun to spooky suspense. Attendees took an adventurous walk down a spooky trail, which led them right to a traditional "cracker barrel"--the Scouting term for a social feast and gathering.

The successful day concluded around a vibrant closing campfire, featuring lively songs and entertaining skits performed by the Scouts themselves. It was an unforgettable day of outdoor adventure, learning and memories that highlighted the enduring spirit of scouting in the Susquehanna Council.
