2 min read

LOCK HAVEN -- The Annie Halenbake Ross Library will host a three-part Introduction to Genealogy class on Nov. 2, 3 and 5 at 6 p.m. Led by former library director Diane Whitaker, the program will introduce participants to the basics of genealogical research and the resources available through the library.

Whitaker, who previously served as the library's executive director, is also the namesake of the library's genealogy collection. She will guide participants through the fundamentals of researching family history and demonstrate how to use the library's resources to uncover information about their ancestors.

Topics will include navigating the library's card catalog, researching newspaper microfilm, exploring compiled family genealogies and ship passenger indexes and locating census records, marriage records and city directories. Participants will learn how these resources can help them piece together their family histories and discover their roots.

Whether you are just beginning your genealogy journey or looking to learn more about the resources available to you, this class offers an opportunity to build your research skills with guidance from an experienced library professional.

Registration is required. The program will take place at the Annie Halenbake Ross Library, located at 232 W. Main St. in Lock Haven, Pa. For more information or to register, contact the library at (570) 748-3321 or ross13@rosslibrary.org.
