LOCK HAVEN -- The annual Shop with a Cop program is returning to Clinton County this December, bringing together local law enforcement, emergency responders, university organizations and community volunteers to make the holidays brighter for local children. The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Walmart in Mill Hall.
This community tradition allows children to shop for holiday gifts alongside police officers, state troopers, rangers, firefighters and other first responders. Each participating child will receive $120 to spend during the event, creating a memorable experience while helping foster positive relationships between local youth and those who serve their communities.
Walmart was selected as the shopping location after organizers carefully reviewed the needs of the program and determined that it provides an effective and accessible setting for participating children, volunteers and first responders.
Organizers are now seeking sponsorships and donations from local businesses, organizations and community members to help make the 2026 event possible. With $120 provided to each of the 25 participating children, the program is seeking to raise at least $3,000 to directly support the children's shopping experience.
A donation of $120 will fully sponsor one child, although contributions of any amount are welcomed and appreciated.
"Shop with a Cop has always been about giving local children a positive experience while bringing our community and first responders together," said event coordinator Ashton Peters. "By limiting the program to 25 children this year, we want to make sure every child receives the time, attention and experience they deserve. Every contribution helps us make that possible."
The 2026 program will also include partnerships with other university clubs and organizations, expanding student involvement and community support for the annual event.
Sponsors will receive recognition through event signage, media coverage and social media promotions throughout the program.
Donations can be made to Michael McSkimming, 401 N. Fairview St., Akeley 143, Lock Haven, PA.
Individuals, businesses and organizations interested in donating, sponsoring a child or learning more about the 2026 Shop with a Cop program may also contact organizers through Clinton County Shop with a Cop on Facebook or email acp29160@commonwealthu.edu.
Shop with a Cop is organized by the Commonwealth University-Lock Haven Criminal Justice Club, in collaboration with participating law enforcement agencies, first responders, university organizations, community partners and volunteers. The program is made possible through the generosity of sponsors and volunteers who share the goal of making the holiday season special for local children.
Additional information regarding participating agencies, sponsors and the 2026 event will be announced as Dec. 5 approaches. Those who wish to donate are asked to do so by Nov. 14.
