E. Main St. below Fallon Alley was traveled by pedestrians, horse-drawn vehicles and bicycles, as this picture of the Stevenson Sporting Goods store and adjacent shops recalls. The parallel lines in the foreground as the trolley tracks in the middle of the street. Many other stores on the street had permanent shelters over the sidewalk as at left, instead of the more up-to-date awnings which could be rolled up when the sun did not shine. Hitching posts were erected at the curb, as seen at left, for the convenience of customers arriving in buckboards and buggies.
