Learn about identity theft during ‘Your Money Matters’ webinars

By From Staff Reports 2 min read

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Penn State Extension will offer two webinars aimed at helping participants protect their identity. "Your Money Matters: Identity Theft" will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. on April 1, and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on April 17, 2025. Both webinars will cover the same materials.

This webinar is designed for the public, human services providers and anyone interested in developing a healthier relationship with money, learning about scams, fraud and protecting their financial reputation.

Identity theft can wreak havoc on one's credit and good name, organizers noted. New scams emerge all the time, and staying ahead of fraudsters is one way to avoid becoming a victim. Even so, many people discover that their accounts are hacked or credit is opened with their personal details.

This webinar is designed to educate attendees on protecting their identity, monitoring accounts and promptly addressing any suspicious transactions for enhanced financial security.

This session can help participants:

-- Increase awareness of identity theft prevalence.

-- Learn strategies to protect themselves and others.

-- Recognize the warning signs of identity theft to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.

-- Learn how to recover if personal identity is stolen.

Webinar material is used with permission and based on the "Money Counts: A Financial Literacy Series" program at Penn State's Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center.

Penn State Extension offers this webinar for $10, but participants must register to receive the link to access the webinar. Registrants also will receive access to the webinar recording.
