UPMC, community partners launch new cancer support program

WILLIAMSPORT — Essence of You, a program offered in partnership with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport, the Paternostro Cancer Foundation, and Susquehanna Health Foundation, will host a series of programs starting in January of 2021. The series is designed to give patients with cancer holistic opportunities for self-care within a supportive and caring environment.

“The Essence of You program comes from a place of deep love and completes the circle of care that our Foundation has shaped through our four cancer programs,” says Krista Bower, chairman and founder of the Paternostro Family Foundation. “We are excited to see how the community embraces this effort.”

The series features local experts including makeup artists, massage therapists, registered dietitians, and yoga instructors presenting on various health and wellness topics. The presentations will occur every other month starting Jan. 12 on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. They will be virtual via Microsoft Teams.

“Participating in this program is an honor,” says Maria Phillips, Primp Salon, a program presenter. “Being able to share my expertise and knowledge, to help such strong and courageous women feel and look their best, is a reminder of why I love what I do.”

Any patient currently receiving cancer treatment at UPMC Hillman Cancer Centers in Williamsport and Wellsboro and UPMC Cole’s Patterson Cancer Center is eligible to attend.

To participate, contact Laurie King, social worker and patient navigator, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, at 570-320-7877.
