UPMC Williamsport nurse recognized with DAISY Award

WILLIAMSPORT -- Allison Schweikart, RN, The Birthplace, a UPMC Magee-Womens facility at UPMC Williamsport, was recently recognized as a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Schweikart was nominated by three patients, one who shared:
"Allison fulfilled not only her job requirements, but also went above and beyond for me during labor. I had several ups and downs throughout the process, but she was right there to make me feel confident and safe," said one patient. "She knew my baby's heart rate was unstable and she watched the monitors constantly. She sat with me and rubbed my back while I was laboring. You honestly could not have asked for a better nurse in that situation. You can tell she loves her job and cares for her patients."
"I was in labor and when it was time for me to get the epidural, my husband had to leave the room. I was hugging him and he was supporting me while I was having a contraction. After he left the room, Allison jumped right in and was holding me up as another contraction came and she would let me hug her like she was my best friend," another patient said. "I can't thank her enough. It really meant a lot and she is good at what she does. Also, the student she had with her, Ella, has a very bright future ahead of her. She was also very comforting and very alert to everything going on. They both are amazing, and I highly recommend these best nurses ever."
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 in California by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease.
During his eight-week hospital stay, his family was impressed by the care and compassion his nurses provided, not only to him but to everyone in the family. They created the DAISY Award in his memory to recognize those nurses who make a big difference in the lives of so many people.
UPMC is proud to be a DAISY Award partner. Nurses are nominated by patients, family members of patients as well as other healthcare professionals. DAISY Awards are presented to nurses at UPMC in North Central Pa. monthly.
Each DAISY Award Honoree is given a DAISY Award pin, a certificate of honor and a stone sculpture entitled, A Healer's Touch, handcrafted by a tribe in Zimbabwe.
