Nittany Woodcrafts offers furniture for house and outdoors

By TAMMY COAKLEY For The Express 4 min read

MILL HALL -- Amos Fisher, Jr. started Nittany Woodcrafts in 1998 from his home. He began the business by manufacturing outdoor furniture, such as lawn furniture, wishing wells, bird houses and light houses. The business outgrew his home so in 2002 he constructed the current building located at 5284 Nittany Valley Drive, Mill Hall, that houses both Nittany Woodcrafts and Nittany Structures on-site operations.

Nittany Woodcrafts broke into the retail market in 2004 and 2005, and the business has been continuously growing since then. The showroom at Nittany Woodcrafts features furniture for every room of the house and the outdoors.

Nittany Woodcrafts offers custom built furniture for purchase from their display area and also offers a market for small family owned handcrafters to market their furniture pieces. Amos contracts with several shops in Pennsylvania and a few in Ohio who deliver quality products at fair prices. Customers desiring to have a piece of furniture specifically made can choose from several catalogs at the service desk to pick their style of furniture, from more than twelve wood species with the colors and stains being endless. Your order is placed and in a few weeks you'll be contacted to pick up your new piece(s).

Housed in the indoor display showroom at Nittany Woodcrafts one can find any number of dining room sets, bedroom suites, clocks, gun cabinets, rocking chairs, hope chests, corn hole boards, toy chests and children's toys like rocking horses, doll houses and doll furniture, wagons, tables and chairs along with other wooden toys. Each item is solidly built, sturdy and durable that will eventually become family heirlooms that will last and be passed down for many generations.

According to Amos Fisher, Jr., "Our handcrafted pieces of furniture have a quality that just cannot be obtained from mass produced markets."

The outside display features varieties of lawn chairs, lawn ornaments, bird houses, gym and swing sets, gazebos and pavilions.

Fisher reported that "in the early stages of the pandemic it was taking a little longer to have custom orders filled, but now with precautions in place the wood crafters are staying busy and business is brisk. There's a lot of things here to choose from if you want to browse and take it home with you today."

Fisher is thankful for new customers and repeat customers who have returned to the business. He recognizes that the success of Nittany Woodcrafts has come through satisfied customers. "I hope that customers will continue to offer suggestions and feedback that will be helpful to us and the wood crafters to ensure that every customer is extremely satisfied with the quality of their products. If there are things you like or dislike about your purchase we want to know and talk with you about it."

Amos Fisher, Jr. branched out in 2009 to create Nittany Structures at the same site which specializes in storage sheds and garages that are built on-site for customers. A large selection of sheds and barn-typed buildings are available for purchase and delivery.

Recently Fisher entered into business with the owners of 360 Hunting Blinds to become a dealer for the blinds. Nittany Structures will build the bases for the blinds with steps and hand railings for the hunters to access their new 360 Hunting Blind.

The two businesses together employ six full time and two part time employees.

Amos Fisher, Jr. invites customers to stop in at the two businesses during summer business hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Thursday; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday's and on Saturday's from 9-3.
