McELHATTAN — The Clinton County Solid Waste Authority owns and operates the Wayne Township Landfill, located in McElhattan. The authority is committed to reducing, reusing, recycling and managing solid waste. They allow curbside recycling, drop-off recycling, commercial recycling and recycling of electronics and hazardous household waste.

The landfill accepts municipal construction and demolition waste, residual waste, gas industry wastes, asbestos (friable & non-friable), tires, sludge (sewage, water treatment and industrial), soil (uncontaminated and contaminated), incinerator ash and liquid waste. The authority is available for waste hauling construction/demolition waste, gas industry wastes, foundry sand, contaminated soil and similar wastes.

The landfill also accepts brush and yard waste, pallets and other miscellaneous wood material. They have a grinder to help process the wood material into high quality landscape mulch and “sawdust” compost material. The processed product is available from the landfill in a variety of colors including natural, dyed black or brown, and can be picked up or delivered.

With the Norfolk Southern rail line running through WTL’s property, it gives another transportation option for incoming and outgoing materials. The rail has given the landfill an increase of daily waste capacity for disposal. Waste via the rail, is cost efficient, evironmentally friendly and minimizes risk factors involved with transportation of waste on the road.

WTL is located at 15 Landfill Lane in McElhattan. For more information, call them at 570-769-6977 or visit them at www.waynetwplandfill.com.
