Smith Furniture to rebuild on previous lot

DUNNSTOWN -- Smith Furniture recently began rebuilding at their previous location at 116 Woodward Ave. in Dunnstown.
In late 2020, a devastating storm caused the roof of Smith Furniture to collapse under the weight of the snow. The store had been at that location for over 75 years at that point, having first opened its doors in 1948.
The plan had always been to reopen the location, according to an interview with owner Jim Smith that took place in the months after the collapse.
"Oh, yes... we want to keep the business going... and we want to keep it over there," Smith said at the time.
Now, four years later, that plan is coming to fruition.
"It means a lot to us (to rebuild.) We're going to be back home and all of the facets of our business will be in one location," said Smith.
Smith Furniture currently has two warehouses in that area -- one of which is in an existing building that hadn't collapsed -- as well as the reupholstery shop.
"We won't have to travel as far to go to the warehouse," said Smith.
Smith is the oldest furniture store in the county, and offers a variety of furniture such as living room and dining room sets, mattresses, chairs and more.
On top of the rebuild, Smith Furniture has moved from their location next to Calico Creek in Mill Hall to the Clinton Plaza -- next to the Fine Wine and Spirits store.
They reopened at this location on Feb. 26, and for all of February they held huge sales on furniture such as sectionals, sleeper sofas, sofas, love seats, chairs and ottomans, mattress and box springs, beds, bedroom suites, coffee tables, side tables, lamps, floral arrangements and more
Their hours are currently Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
