Don Houser Jr. joins PASSHE Board of Governors
HARRISBURG — Don Houser Jr. was unanimously confirmed Tuesday by the state Senate as a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors.
Houser is a member of the Lock Haven University Council of Trustees and was nominated to the PASSHE position by Gov. Tom Wolf earlier this year.
The 20-member Board of Governors is responsible for oversight of the state system. The board establishes broad educational, fiscal and personnel policies. Among other tasks, it appoints the chancellor and each university president, approves new academic programs, sets tuition, and coordinates and approves the annual state system operating budget.
Houser, born in Lock Haven, received his B.A. in political science in 1994 from Lock Haven University and is a former township commissioner in Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County.
He is currently state policy advisor for Dominion Resources, Inc. In this position, he works closely with all of Dominion’s business units and is responsible for coordinating all of Dominion’s government affairs activities in Pennsylvania and New York, where he also sits on the Board of Directors of the Independent Power Producers of New York, Inc.
Prior to joining Dominion, he spent 13 years in the Senate of Pennsylvania where he was field representative for former state Senator J. Doyle Corman and chief of staff for current Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman.
Houser and his wife, Mindy, also a graduate of LHU, and two sons Jackson and Sloan reside in Robinson Township, Allegheny County.
